SVIVA STATION EXHIBITION

Throughout the three weeks of the exhibition, a rich program of events was held in its space, embodying the project’s concept of dialogue, where the exhibition served as an inviting space for reconsidering the questions it raised and facilitating a socio-cultural discourse. Artists have been introduced to the most socially complex district of Tel-Aviv, Neve Shaanan.

In our art video titled “Everlasting Shadows, ” we explore the complexities of a problematic neighborhood on the precipice of gentrification. The video delves into the subtle nuances of this ongoing transformation, where the influx of new residents and investments promises change but may not offer a genuine solution to the deep-rooted issues present in this community. The video delves deeper into the problematic nature of gentrification, portraying how it can be more like a patchwork solution than a genuine remedy. While the neighborhood’s appearance may transform, the underlying issues, such as poverty, crime, and lack of access to quality education and healthcare, persist. By shedding light on this aspect, we challenge the notion that gentrification alone is a panacea for a neighborhood’s troubles.

WHITE: COLOUR OF PURITY AND INNOCENCE; PROVIDES HOPES AND CLARITY

Mixed media, 76×148, 2023

The art object in question presents a thought-provoking commentary on the complexities of urban development and social challenges, specifically within a problematic neighborhood. The municipality’s approach to addressing the issues through commissioned murals from artists is portrayed as an attempt to conceal rather than confront the underlying problems — akin to trying to cover “gangrene” with white paint. This artistic endeavor sheds light on the wider implications of cosmetic solutions in attempting to beautify an area plagued by deep-rooted issues. The central message of the art object lies in its exploration of the efficacy of cosmetic solutions employed by local authorities to tackle deeply rooted problems. It prompts viewers to question the responsibility of the municipality in fostering genuine, sustainable change within the community. By commissioning artists to create murals as a quick-fix solution, are they genuinely addressing the neighborhood’s issues, or merely covering them up?
